Control instance
On the service page (your page in my.envbay.com) you control your instance (your development server).
Restart instance
Section titled “Restart instance”A restart helps when your instance no longer responds.
- Open my.envbay.com.
- Click Instances.
- Click your instance.
- Under Control instance, click Restart.
- Wait one to two minutes.
Stop and start instance
Section titled “Stop and start instance”A stopped instance cannot be reached. Your data is kept.
- Under Control instance, click Stop.
- Click Yes, stop it.
To start it again, click Start. Then wait one to two minutes.
Back up now
Section titled “Back up now”A backup is a safety copy. Back up now saves your instance settings, for example users and the project list. It does not back up your project files. On the Free plan the backup stays on the server.
- Under Control instance, click Back up now.
How to back up a project is described in the chapter Backups.
Reset admin password
Section titled “Reset admin password”This helps when you have forgotten the password of your admin account. The admin account is the user admin in your instance. The instance must be running.
- Open my.envbay.com.
- Click Instances.
- Click your instance.
- Under Control instance, click Reset admin password.
- Click Yes, reset it.
- In the window New admin password, copy the password with the copy button.
- Click Close.
- Click Open instance.
- Type
adminas the username. - Paste the password.
- Open Settings.
- Change your password there.
All sign-ins of this admin account end. You sign in again afterwards. Other users of your instance stay signed in.
If something does not work
Section titled “If something does not work”- Too fast: Wait 30 seconds between two clicks.
- The instance was stopped: This happens for security reasons. Open a ticket with us (a message to support). The steps are in the chapter Help.
- The instance is locked because an invoice is overdue: Pay the invoice. The instance is then released.
- The trial has ended (Free plan): Start, stop, restart and backup are then locked. So is resetting the admin password. Read Plans and limits.
- Resetting says the instance is not running: Start the instance first. Wait one to two minutes. Then try again.
- The admin account was not found: Open a ticket. The steps are in the chapter Help.
- Sign-in is refused: Envoryx slows down failed attempts for up to 15 minutes. Wait and try again.
- The action fails: Try again in a few minutes. If that does not help, open a ticket.
Actions on the service page
Section titled “Actions on the service page”The service page at https://my.envbay.com/services/<id> has the section Control instance. The actions always apply to the whole instance, not to individual projects.
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Restart | Restarts the instance container; the instance is reachable again after one to two minutes |
| Stop | Shuts down the container; confirmation Yes, stop it. The instance stays unreachable until you start it |
| Start | Starts the container; reachable after one to two minutes |
| Back up now | Triggers an instance backup via the Fleet Manager, which is copied to the off-site storage of your plan (Free: local only) |
| Reset admin password | Runs the Envoryx function reset-password in the container of the instance; confirmation Yes, reset it. Only for the first admin account admin; the instance must be running. The new password has 20 characters and appears in the dialog New admin password (copy button, Close) and afterwards, stored encrypted, on the service page. The audit log of the instance records the call as “cli” |
Actions run over a protected connection to the host (sign-in, CSRF protection, only the owner of the active service). There must be 30 seconds between two actions. The host rejects actions while the service is locked: for an abuse lock with a note to open a ticket, for an open invoice with a note to pay it. It also rejects actions for a cancelled or inactive service.
Back up now creates an instance backup. It contains Envoryx itself (users, settings, project list), but no project files and no Docker volumes; the Secret Key is missing. Envbay does not display the key; Envoryx shows it to admins under Settings → Secret key after they confirm their password (according to the Envoryx documentation; with single sign-on accounts, after a sign-in within the last 10 minutes). You also need the key of a source instance to restore a project backup from there, see Export and import. Back up project files with project backups in Envoryx, see Backups and the Envoryx documentation on instance backups.
Reset admin password ends the sign-ins of the account admin, not those of other users of your instance. The new password appears in the dialog and replaces the starting password from Getting started: Envbay stores it encrypted in the customer area, and the service page shows it like the starting password (can be hidden, with a copy button). It appears in no log and is not sent by email. If you change the password yourself in Envoryx, the display does not follow; reset it again then if needed, the gap of 30 seconds applies. Envoryx still limits failed sign-in attempts for up to 15 minutes. If the instance is not running, the host rejects the action; start the instance first. If the host does not find the account, open a ticket, see Help.
