Plans and limits

Each instance (your development server) runs on its own. It sits in a container (a sealed-off area on the server). The plan determines how much computing power your instance has.

Free Starter Team Agency
Price per month (gross, incl. 19 % VAT) 0 € (7-day trial) 12 € 29 € 59 €
CPU cores 1 2 2 4
Memory 1 GB 2 GB 4 GB 8 GB
Storage 10 GB 20 GB 50 GB 100 GB
Projects (applications) 1 3 10 25
Users (people with access) 1 1 5 15
  • Free is the free trial. It lasts 7 days and can be extended once.
  • Starter is the entry point. Large frontend builds (assembling the user interface) need more than 2 GB of memory.
  • Team has 4 GB of memory. This helps with large builds.
  • Agency has 4 CPU cores, 8 GB of memory and 100 GB of storage.

Free and Starter offer PHP, Node.js, Python and static sites. The assistant shows which services your plan includes when you create a project.

With Free you try out Envbay. It costs nothing. There is one trial instance per account.

  1. Open my.envbay.com.
  2. Order the Free plan in the shop. The steps are in the Ordering and account chapter.
  3. Your instance runs for 7 days.

These limits apply to Free:

  • 1 CPU core, 1 GB of memory, 10 GB of storage and 1 project.
  • The languages and services are the same as in Starter.
  • Branch environments (a copy of a project on another Git branch) are not included. Neither are custom images.
  • Backups stay on the server. There is no off-site backup and no backup of single projects.

You can extend the trial once by 7 days.

  1. Open my.envbay.com.
  2. Click Instances.
  3. Click your instance.
  4. Click Extend trial by 7 days.
  5. Confirm the question.

The service page (your page in my.envbay.com) shows how long the trial runs.

  • When the trial ends, Envbay stops your instance.
  • Your data is kept for another 14 days.
  • During this time you can still extend once, if that is open.
  • Do you want to keep the instance? Then change the plan. All data is kept.
  • Otherwise Envbay deletes the instance with all its data after the 14 days.

While the instance is stopped, the service page only offers extending and changing the plan.

We write to you three times:

  • 2 days before the end: a reminder.
  • After the end: a note on what you can do now and until when.
  • After deletion: a note that the instance is gone.

Your instance stays in place. This also applies when you switch from Free to a paid plan.

  1. Open my.envbay.com.
  2. Click Instances.
  3. Click your instance.
  4. Click Change plan.
  5. Choose the new plan.
  6. Click Next step.
  7. Pay the invoice.

Changing to Free is not possible.

  • Changing the plan is not possible: An invoice for an earlier change is still open. Pay it first.
  • The change failed: Check your plan on the service page (your page in my.envbay.com). Open a ticket with us (a message to support). The steps are in the Help chapter.
  • Not enough memory: If memory is too small, the system stops programs. A larger plan then helps.
  • You cannot order Free: There is only one trial instance per account. Or all trial places are taken right now. Try again later or choose Starter.
  • The trial has ended: Extend it once or change the plan. Otherwise the instance is deleted.

Free and Starter do not include branch environments, custom images or external services. Envoryx shows your plan and its usage under Settings → General. You can find the comparison of all features on the pricing page.

Free is a trial, not a permanent plan: 7 days from provisioning, extendable once by 7 days. As with all plans, storage comes with a 20 % reserve. As with all plans, the mail ports are blocked. One trial instance is possible per account; Free requires a confirmed email address. Each server runs only a limited number of trial instances at the same time. If all places are taken, the order reports that no trial instances are available right now. Try again later or choose Starter.

State What applies
Trial running The service page shows “Trial until ”, with “(extended)” added after an extension. All actions are allowed.
Expired Envbay shuts the instance down. Start, stop, restart, backup and reset admin password are locked, and the service page shows a notice with the deletion date. Extending (once) and changing the plan still work.
Deleted 14 days after expiry, Envbay removes the instance, projects and all data irreversibly.

The state on the host is authoritative; the shop reconciles it daily and updates the display.

The service page has Extend trial by 7 days (with a confirmation). The button appears only as long as you have not extended. The new deadline counts from the previous end date; if the trial has already expired, it counts from the day of the extension. An expired instance is started again in the process. Envbay rejects a second extension.

With Change plan (Starter, Team or Agency) you keep the instance and all data. The trial dates are removed, and an expired instance is started. Changing to Free is not possible. The procedure is described further down under “Change plan”.

When Email
2 days before expiry Reminder with the end date, pointing to extending and upgrading
Day after expiry Notice about extending, upgrading and the deletion date
After removal Notice that the instance and its data have been deleted

The emails go to your account’s address in your account’s language, each only once. Conditions are in the terms and conditions, section 4a.

Free and Starter
Runtimes PHP, Node.js, Python, static sites. Go, Ruby, Java and .NET are not planned.
Services all except Ollama and OpenSearch

The lists are allow lists of the plan: the assistant in Envoryx only shows what your plan includes. Databases (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and add-on services such as Redis, RabbitMQ or Mailpit are included in Free and Starter.

The limits for CPU and memory are hard and match the values of your plan: your instance can never use more than your plan provides, and all projects share these resources. A single container may have at most the plan’s values; lower values are possible. Envbay limits storage softly: when it runs short, Envoryx first stops new projects and backups. The hard limit is the size of the volume; after that, it behaves like a full disk.

If memory is not enough, the kernel ends processes (out-of-memory). In practice, this affects large build steps:

Consumer Rule of thumb
Large frontend builds (Vite, Webpack, Next.js) from Team (4 GB); on Starter with 2 GB and on Free with 1 GB, they sometimes abort with OOM
JetBrains backend over SSH 2 to 4 GB extra (according to the Envoryx docs)

You set limits per container in Envoryx; see Resource limits.

You change the plan yourself on the service page at my.envbay.com: Open instance, Change plan, Choose a plan, Next step, pay. The instance stays in place. The basis is an upgrade path between the products in the shop.

  • Envbay first sets the plan in the administration, then the instance’s cores and memory; storage is increased.
  • Storage is only increased, never reduced. If you switch to a smaller plan, cores and memory adjust, and the used space remains.
  • If the adjustment fails, Envbay resets the plan in the administration to the last applied one. If in doubt, check the plan on the service page and open a ticket.
  • As long as an invoice for a change is open, no further change is possible.
  • Changing to Free is not possible; Free exists only as the first trial.

If an invoice remains unpaid, Envbay can lock the instance. The projects are then stopped, but the data is kept. Once payment is received, the lock is lifted; you start the projects yourself afterwards. Deadlines and conditions are in the terms and conditions.
